Affirmation of Faith
I, _______________________________________________________, the below signed, accept and agree with the fundamental beliefs of this body of believers. I agree to be under the spiritual oversight and leadership of the Goodyear church of Christ as defined by scripture (c. Setting Things In Order), and participate in the activities, services, and sharing in the weekly communion at Sunday worship services. I attest that I, by definition, accept and agree with, and shall comply with the following tenets of the New Testament doctrine:
Basic Beliefs
- Belief in the existence of one and only one God, the Creator of the heavens and the earth and all therein.
- Belief in the Bible as the one and only inspired and revealed Word of God, the source of absolute authority and truth.
- Belief that all accountable persons are spiritually separated from God because all have sinned before God.
- Belief that God provided restoration of spiritual fellowship with fallen man by sending part of Himself in human form as Jesus Christ and offering Himself as a sacrifice for all sins of all mankind.
- Belief that Jesus Christ lived, died on a cross, was buried in a tomb, and was resurrected from the grave three days later on the first day of the week, Sunday.
- Belief that Jesus Christ established His Church on the earth.
- Belief that individuals form a relationship with Jesus Christ to become "in" Christ and are then placed by Him in His Church.
- Belief that a person receives God's gift of eternal life by hearing God's word and truth from the Bible, by acceptance of that truth through obedience to His word and will through faith, and by forgiveness of sins through the sacrificed blood of Jesus Christ, through God's grace.
- Belief that repentance from sin and turning to God for His direction and guidance; confession of that faith and commitment to Jesus as Lord; belief that Jesus is the Son of God; and immersion in water baptism (sharing in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ and receiving the forgiveness of sin) are all essential to one's salvation and adoption as God's child.
- Belief in individuals becoming in-Christ and in His church after:
- Believing that Jesus is the Son of God, the One who saves them from their sins.
- Repenting and leaving the former way of life and rebellion toward God and His authority, giving allegiance to Jesus as Savior and Lord
- Confessing to witnesses their belief and acknowledgement of Jesus as Lord
- Submitting to baptism, a burial, fully immersed in water, into Jesus Christ for the remission of sins
- Belief that individuals are saved, adopted by God as His spiritual children, placed in Christ and added to His body, the Church.
- Belief that saved individuals must identify themselves with a local church such as the Goodyear Church of Christ.
- Belief that God created man and woman with different roles and responsibilities.
- Belief that only a male and a female individual can unite in a marriage relationship and homosexual relationships are an abomination in the eyes of God.
- Belief that sexual relationships in marriage between a husband and wife are approved by God and that all other sexual relationships outside of marriage are not approved by God and are sinful in His eyes.
- Belief that male leadership is required in the church and
that only males can:
- Be selected and appointed to and/or hold church offices of Elders and Deacons
- Serve in leadership roles in public worship assemblies such as giving sermons, leading prayers, leading singing, and conducting public reading.
- Belief that the primary worship assembly must be observed by members on the Lord's Day (Sunday), which is the day of significance for Christians, marking the day Jesus Christ arose from the grave victorious over all.
